Armored Rat (Hoplomys gymnurus)

…is a species of neotropical spiny rat found throughout Latin America. As its common name suggests this rodent has rows of spines armoring its back. These spines are primarily used in defense but if they do not work the rat can detach its tail like some lizards can, but unlike lizards it cannot grow it back. Unlike other spiny rats the armored rat is not arboreal but instead occupies burrows usually found near a water source, only coming out at night to feed.

Antarctic Sun Starfish (Labidiaster annulatus)

….is a species of seastar found in the cold waters around the Antarctic Peninsula and surrounding islands. Like alot of many-armed starfish the Antarctic Sun Starfish is a opportunistic predator “quickly” moving across the seabed with its many arms, searching for other echinoderms and  invertebrates to eat. It has also been observed climbing to an elevated position and extending its arms out like fishing rods, grabbing any prey that swims by.
